Governor Makinde Announces Successful Discharge of 90% Victims, Commences Recovery Operations

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has delivered an update on the recent explosion that occurred in Ibadan, sharing significant developments and actions taken by his administration.

Discharge of Victims and Financial Support

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Governor Makinde revealed that approximately 90% of the victims of the explosion have been successfully discharged from various hospitals.

He emphasized that his administration has ensured the settlement of bills for these individuals.

Death Toll and Counseling Initiatives

The governor reported that the current death toll from the incident stands at five persons.

Additionally, counselling for the victims has commenced at the Emergency Operations Centre in Ibadan, demonstrating the state’s commitment to addressing the psychological impact of the incident.

Integrity Tests on Buildings and Investigation Progress

Governor Makinde disclosed ongoing integrity tests on approximately 230 buildings around the explosion site.

These tests, conducted by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, aim to assess the structural stability of properties in the vicinity.

The governor also mentioned that security agencies are actively investigating both the immediate and remote causes of the explosion.

Commendation for Law and Order Maintenance

Governor Makinde commended the efforts of security agencies in maintaining law and order around Bodija, where the incident occurred.

He expressed appreciation for the cooperation of residents who have diligently followed directives.

Transition from Search and Rescue to Recovery

The governor provided an update on the operations at Ground Zero, stating that the focus has shifted from search and rescue to recovery efforts.
