Lynn Forbes, an inspirational speaker and mother of the late rapper Kiernan “AKA” Jarryd Forbes, recently took to Instagram to share a poignant moment that reminded her of her son’s love for Istanbul, Turkey.
This heartfelt reflection came during a trip to Istanbul with her granddaughter, Kairo Forbes, the daughter of AKA and DJ Zinhle.
AKA’s Deep Love for Istanbul and Turkey’s Rich History
Lynn fondly recalled how her son AKA had always dreamed of taking his family to Turkey, a place he deeply admired for its vibrant culture and rich history.
The rapper, known for his global influence and impact, tragically lost his life on February 10, 2023, outside Wish Restaurant in Durban.
Despite his untimely death, Lynn shared that his spirit continues to live on in the stories of strangers who recount their encounters with him.
On this emotional journey to Istanbul, Lynn felt as though she was walking in AKA’s footsteps.
She shared in her post: “Kiernan always wished to take us to visit Istanbul because he appreciated the rich history and vibrant culture of Türkiye so much! On this trip, it literally feels as if we are walking in his footsteps, with him leading the way wherever we go.”
A Special Moment of Remembrance and Healing
Lynn also reflected on a memorable moment during the trip when she visited a place her son had been to in 2019, Iznik Works, where AKA had bought a beautiful vase for his partner DJ Zinhle.
This vase now holds even more significance, as Lynn plans to keep it safe for Kairo.
She concluded her post with gratitude: “Kiernan, your spirit lives on and hearing people, often strangers, relate stories about meeting you and their very memorable interactions with you, are very heartwarming but also bring healing to us at the same time.”
Inside Lynn and Kairo’s Adventure in Istanbul
Throughout the trip, Lynn and Kairo both shared glimpses of their experiences in Istanbul on Instagram.
Kairo expressed how much she appreciated her grandmother’s influence in choosing destinations that offer cultural enrichment.
“Because Glammy said we should go and experience new things and make new memories.
She always knows what’s best, and even when I wouldn’t have chosen to go somewhere myself, I always end up enjoying it with Glammy,” Kairo said.
The pair embarked on an exciting journey where they were set to explore the rich culture and history of Istanbul, with Kairo excitedly documenting their adventures in a specially designed “Cultural, History and Food Passport” created by Lynn.
They had already watched numerous YouTube videos about the city, and Kairo couldn’t wait to tick off her list of things to see and experience.
