In a disappointing turn of events for Liverpool fans, Federico Chiesa, the talented forward, will not be participating in the upcoming Champions League match against Bologna.
This comes after he encountered a minor issue during training.
The Italy international was noticeably absent during the team’s open training session held in front of the media on Tuesday morning, raising concerns about his fitness.
Jota’s Status and Slot’s Expectations
Alongside Chiesa, Diogo Jota also missed the training session, but Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, remains optimistic about Jota’s availability for the game against the Serie A side at Anfield.
“Diogo missed two sessions after the Wolves match due to a knock, but I expect him to join us tomorrow,” Slot stated.
He added, “Federico trained with us yesterday, but he came in today with some problems.
Unfortunately, I don’t expect him to be part of the team for this match.
It’s disappointing for both him and us, especially since he was eager to play in a Champions League match at Anfield, particularly against an Italian team.
However, I don’t anticipate him being out for an extended period; we just need to see if he can be ready for Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace.”
Boost from Nunez and Robertson
On a brighter note, forward Darwin Nunez, who had to sit out Saturday’s win against Wolves due to illness, is back in training and could potentially step in for Jota.
Additionally, left-back Andy Robertson, who was forced to leave the match against Wolves with a knock, was also present for training, which bodes well for the squad’s overall fitness.
Aiming for Another Victory in Europe
As Liverpool prepares to face Bologna, the Reds are looking to secure their second win in the Champions League.
They previously enjoyed a comfortable victory against AC Milan in their opening match last month.
With Slot’s impressive start at Anfield, having led the team to seven wins in eight matches, the anticipation for the upcoming game continues to grow.
