Egyptian giants Al Ahly will face Sudanese side Al-Merrikh in a crucial CAF Champions League Group A match on Saturday, 5 March.

Kick-off is scheduled for 21:00 SA time.

The match was due to have been played on match-day 1, but was postponed due to Al Ahly’s involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup.

As reported by The South African website, although still early days, the Egyptian giants are in a spot of bother in this season’s tournament as they look to defend their title.

Al Ahly drew their opening match against Al Hilal 0-0 and then lost at home 1-0 against Mamelodi Sundowns.

That means Mosimane’s team has yet to find the back of the net in their two matches played.

Al Ahly will be in trouble if they lose

Defeat against Al-Merrikh could well spell the end of Al Ahly’s chances with a daunting trip to South Africa to play Mamelodi Sundowns looming.

Just as well Mosimane is set to put pen to paper on a new, lucrative (no doubt) contract prior to boarding the flight to Mzansi!

Al Ahly face a daunting week ahead.

Following their clash against Al-Merrikh on Saturday, they will take on Egyptian Premier League log leaders Pyramids on Tuesday, 8 March (20:00).

They will then head for South Africa for the blockbuster clash against current Group A leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, with that clash scheduled for Friday, 11 March at the FNB Stadium at 15:00 – both of which were exclusively confirmed by The South African website.
