Ferrari have been fined £25,512 following a frightening pit lane incident involving Lewis Hamilton during the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.
The penalty came after the Formula 1 team released Hamilton from his pit box before it was safe, resulting in the Briton making contact with one of the Ferrari crew members.

The incident unfolded during a routine tyre stop when Hamilton received the green light indicating he was clear to rejoin the race.

After the race, Hamilton admitted the incident left him shaken, revealing that his thoughts instantly turned to a similar pit lane accident involving former Formula 1 champion Kimi Räikkönen.
He explained that drivers focus almost entirely on the pit exit light rather than the mechanics around the car, making them heavily reliant on the team’s release system.
Hamilton said seeing the mechanic after the impact brought back memories of Räikkönen’s 2018 Bahrain Grand Prix incident, when a Ferrari mechanic suffered a broken leg after being hit during an unsafe release.
The British driver said his heart “sank” in the immediate aftermath as he feared the worst before learning the crew member had escaped major injury.
