Lego figurine of President Zelensky raises R250 000 in funds for Ukraine

A custom-printed Lego figurine of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has not only sold out within minutes, but raised a quarter million rand in funds for the war-torn country.

The limited edition mini figurines – made by Citizen Brick – were sold online earlier this month.

A small batch of the figurines of the statesman as well as mini Lego Molotov Cocktails (a hand-made explosive) raked in a total of R248,615, all of which was donated to charity.

The proceeds went to Direct Relief, a US-based humanitarian charity deployed to help with medical equipment in Ukraine. This, amid a land invasion undertaken by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

PRESIDENT ZELENSKY LEGO FIGURINE SELLS OUT FAST

In an online sale on 5 March, Citizen Brick produced a limited edition batch of miniature President Zelensky figures, which sold for R1,503 ($100) and Molotov Cocktails, which sold for R150 each ($10). Together, both items raised a total of nearly R250 000.

Citizen Brick revealed the news in an Instagram post.

“A huge thank you to everyone who donated to yesterday’s fundraiser for Ukraine. Through the sale of the President Zelensky minifigs (and Molotov Cocktails, which got our last post pulled down. Go figure.)

“We were able to raise $16,540! The entire amount was donated to @directrelief to assist their efforts to bring medical supplies to those in need.

The Lego figurine features the 44-year-old president wearing his now trademark khaki T-shirt and military suit, complete with stubble facial hair.
