According to the official weather projection app Ventusky, South Africa and Lesotho are set for some wintery flurries by the end of this week. The updated snow forecast is currently showing us that THREE provinces can soon expect a dusting.
Snow forecast for South Africa: What can we expect?
Predicting snowfall is an extremely tricky business, and joyful forecasts like these don’t always last the distance. However, based on what we can currently see, sporadic snow showers remain on the radar for Mzansi and its enclaved neighbour.
At the beginning of April, the first snowfall of the year made landfall in parts of Lesotho and the Drakensberg Mountain Range. On the morning of Saturday 21 May, falling flakes are expected to reach parts of the Eastern Cape, KZN, and Free State.
Barkly East in the Eastern Cape is something of a hot-spot for snow-chasers, and locals can expect upwards of 2.5cm to fall during the weekend. This rural, northern part of the province will see temperatures plummet late on Friday evening, too.

Meanwhile, the Drakensberg is where you’re most likely to find a dusting in KZN, with the mountains on course for a snow-capping by Saturday afternoon. A tiny pocket of Free State will also be affected, as areas south of Witsieshoek feature on the snow forecast:

The snow will then persist into Sunday, but the lion’s share of the coverage will remain within the borders of Lesotho. Sustained rain showers are also set to sweep across the three snow-affected provinces on 22 May.
Eastern Cape, KZN, and Free State are also likely to feel some sub-zero temperatures this weekend, with the mercury plummeting below ZERO degrees in some places. Isolated regions of Lesotho could drop as low as -3C.
