The Lagos State Government has pledged to do more for the youth by offering them the information and skills necessary to help the actualization of the smart city project while giving them a better future.
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hazmat, made this pledge during his keynote speech at the Y2023 International Youth Day Grand Finale, which was hosted at Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium in Alausa and had as its topic “Green Skills for Youth: Towards Sustainable World.”
The Secretary to the State Government, Barrister ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, spoke on behalf of Hamzat and stated, “The Ministry of Youth and Social Development is preparing the youth population for the future.
Youth Engagement has been added to the THEMES Plus Agenda in order to offer them more attention because the current administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is committed to doing more for them.
The Deputy Governor asked the attendees to use their newfound knowledge to contribute their fair share to the Lagos Smart City initiative.
In her opening remarks, Pharm (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, noted that the United Nations established International Youth Day to call attention to the importance of focusing on youth as a resource for fostering community and national development among governmental and non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, businesses, and other relevant stakeholders.
Its purpose is to inform the public about the unique difficulties that young people are facing in their communities and to increase awareness of youth-related issues throughout the world.
Pharm (Mrs.) Oke-Osanyintolu revealed that the youth who took part in the Business Amplifier Clinic were given new and entrepreneurial skills that will allow them to adapt their products and processes to climate change and the associated environmental requirements and regulations by reducing air pollution, embracing tree planting, and using resources with a high rate of recycling.
She stated: “The State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu will be launching a series of youth engagement/empowerment activities and programs oriented on boosting youth inclusion in the socioeconomic development of the State.
According to Dr. Esther Somekun, a UNFPA representative, and Comrade Biliaminu Oba, the chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria’s Lagos State Chapter, the initiative will significantly aid in assisting youth in realizing their full potential in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The CEO of Plastibuild Creative Solutions, Aminu Mohammed, emerged as the overall winner of the second million naira during the week-long event’s Business Pitch, which was held at the conclusion of the Business Amplifier Clinic for Young Entrepreneurs.
Aisha Ibironke, CEO of Biwunmi Nig Ltd, and Elizabeth Adebayo, CEO of Damliz Pastries Business, were among the other winners of the Business Pitch competition who took home cash prizes.
