Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub and the most populous coastal city in Africa, generates 10,000 MT/day of municipal solid waste, with 15% of this figure being plastic waste, out of which only about 10% is recycled.

With a population of over 20 million, most of its solid waste end up in dumpsites dotting the city’s landscape.

This was disclosed at the introductory workshop of the World Bank Group’s International Development Association (IDA) Marine Plastic Project in Nigeria funded by the ProBlue Fund- a new Multi-Donor Trust Fund housed at the @WBG_IDA that supports the Blue Economy.

The ongoing workshop serves as an introductory event, to further sensitize and acquaint critical stakeholders with the project objectives, target groups and expected outcomes. #ProblueLagos #MarinePlasticNG pic.twitter.com/8P9L9Q5nth
