Kano adopts use of ICT to fight crime

Kano State, North west Nigeria has been declared as the most peaceful State in the country for making use of Information Communication Technology, ICT, to combat crime in the state.

The Governor of Kano State, Umaru Ganduje disclosed this during the International Economic and Security Summit 2021 organised by StandTall Africa Initiative in collaboration with Kabiru Gombe Centre for Religious Diversity Ethics and Peace Studies in  Abuja, Nigeria’s capital with the theme “Winning the war against insurgency, insecurity and building a robust and balanced economy for the Nigerian State: a collective effort”.

The Governor said “ICT is the back bone of progress to any sector in Nigeria and Africa at large”.

According to him, Information Communication and Technology, ICT, has been described as a key to fight insurgency and other related crime in the country.

He said Nigeria was on the right track to attain its goal of becoming one of Africa’s pace setters in the development of ICT.

Governor Ganduje noted that the integration of  ICT digital economy by the Nigerian government into the federal ministry of communication is a  sure way to development.

He noted that Kano State government has upgraded its ICT department to full blown ministry in charge of science, technology and innovation among other feats achieved.

“ICT is a good tracker to track bandits, kidnappers and other criminals in the state and the technology is used also in protecting lives and prosperity people” said Governor Ganduje.

Governor Ganduje being honoured with a National Builders awardGovernor Ganduje was given a National Builders award by naming a research centre after him, known as Umar Ganduje Centre for Research and Technological Initiative which he accepted.

There were other Awardees.

Many dignitaries participated in the summit both Stakeholders and Traditional Rulers amongst others.
