Coach Khalil Ben Youssef’s Praise for George Matlou
One player that has drawn a lot of attention from Kaizer Chiefs supporters is George Matlou, whose smooth and skillful play has earned him admiration from fans.
After being sidelined for eight months due to injury, the 26-year-old made a notable return, starting his second game of the season against Free Agents FC in the Nedbank Cup, where he also won the Man of the Match award.
Coach Khalil Ben Youssef expressed his satisfaction with Matlou’s progress, highlighting his tactical intelligence and potential to be a key player moving forward.
He credited the team’s fitness coach, Majdi, for the hard work put into Matlou’s recovery, ensuring that he is now in top condition for the team.
“Now I can say Matlou is 100% for the team,” said Ben Youssef, referring to his return to full fitness.
Bongani Sam’s Loan Deal Falls Through
There were speculations that Bongani Sam, a 27-year-old former Orlando Pirates left-back, might be leaving Kaizer Chiefs on loan to Magesi FC.
The defender had suffered a severe ankle injury during pre-season in Turkey and had been limited to just one appearance in a friendly match against Marumo Gallants.
Despite this, Magesi had shown interest in securing Sam for the remainder of the season.
However, at the last minute, the deal was called off, with Magesi FC reportedly unable to offload a few players in time to complete the move.
As a result, Kaizer Chiefs will keep Sam in their squad, with coach Nasreddine Nabi continuing to work with the defender.
What Does the Future Hold for Bongani Sam?
While Sam will remain with the team for now, it’s unclear whether he will earn a starting spot in the squad, as Kaizer Chiefs already have other left-back options in Bradley Cross, Thatayaone Dithlokwe, and Happy Mashiane.
Only time will tell if Sam can make his way into the starting lineup.
