Kaizer Chiefs are allegedly in advanced talks with Sekhukhune United to recruit Bafana Bafana midfielder Yusuf Maart.
Chiefs have reportedly been interested in Maart since at least the middle of last year, and it appears they may have finally gotten their chevalier!
The Chiefs have made it clear that they want to rebuild their aging roster, and midfield appears to be one of the areas where they want to make changes.
That would then leave room for the likes of Maart to fulfil that role, and if the recent rumours doing the rounds are anything to go by, Amakhosi are already in contact with Sekhukhune over that possibility being a reality.
As undoubtedly one of their biggest assets, it is no secret that Sekhukhune would be demanding a sizeable transfer fee from Chiefs if they are to part ways with Maart. In stark contrast, Amakhosi are not known to be a club that is willing to part with top dollar to sign players. That has usually been the sticking point between the club’s management and its supporters, as they feel it has a direct correlation to the many years the club has been experiencing a drought for.
Now the latest news seems to suggest the Chiefs and Sekhukhune are willing to find common ground and according to Soccer-Laduma, the Glamour Boys have proposed a swap-deal for Maart’s services.
“Kaizer Chiefs are likely to offer players on top of the money that they are going to pay in their pursuit of Yusuf Maart from Sekhukhune United. That’s how serious Chiefs are about getting their target and negotiations are ongoing,” said a source to the same publication.
The fact that it is being said Chiefs and Sekhukhune are in advanced talks, could show that the Limpopo-based outfit are willing to listen and may have got encouragement with regards to the availability of the players they could be searching for. It now remains to be seen if Maart will soon be unveiled as a new signing of the Soweto giants next season.
