Kaizer Chiefs hope recent transfer moves will bring immediate results as the club seeks to strengthen its squad in South Africa

Kaizer Chiefs are hoping their moves in the transfer market will start paying off sooner rather than later as they work to strengthen their squad for the future.

Kaizer Chiefs Missed Opportunity with Thulani Serero

Thulani Serero, once a shining star for Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League, could have been a valuable addition to Chiefs.

Serero had an impressive career, making 11 appearances in the prestigious competition with Ajax, his last in the 2014-2015 season.

His early career, especially with Ajax Cape Town, saw him dazzling as an attacking midfielder and earning the PSL Player of the Season award in 2010-2011.

At his peak in 2015, Serero was valued at R4 million (around R77 million).

Now at 34, he’s reportedly in talks with Cape Town City FC for a potential return to the Mother City, leaving Chiefs to reflect on the missed opportunity.

All Eyes on Thabo Cele

With some midfield options, like Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Yusuf Maart, and Edson Castillo, struggling to make an impact at Chiefs, the club is desperate for a midfield general to step up.

Samkelo Zwane is still a young talent at 22, but there are doubts about his attitude.

Meanwhile, fan favorite Njabulo Blom is set to return to St. Louis City at the end of his loan spell. The focus now shifts to Thabo Cele, who recently turned 28.

Having played 27 times for Fakel Voronezh in Russia since joining in August 2023, Cele could be the answer.

Despite only earning five caps for South Africa, Cele’s experience might prove invaluable for Chiefs.

Can Cele Solve Chiefs’ Midfield Woes?

The question now is whether Thabo Cele can step in and provide the midfield stability that Kaizer Chiefs desperately need.

Only time will tell if he’s the solution to their ongoing midfield issues.
