Kaizer Chiefs fans have been buzzing with excitement as the club is linked with some of the hottest football talent across Africa.
But before dreaming of a new-look team filled with international stars, there’s a reality check—the Premier Soccer League’s foreign player limit might force the club to make some tough calls.
Amakhosi Linked With Star Talent Across Africa
From Tanzania’s Fiston Mayele to Zanzibar’s Feisal Salum, the Chiefs are reportedly chasing several big names this transfer window.
The list also includes DR Congo’s Maxi Nzengeli and Jean Claude Ahoua.
On paper, it sounds like a dream line-up—but there’s one big hurdle: PSL rules only allow five foreign nationals to be registered per club.
So, how does Kaizer Chiefs’ current squad stack up?
One Foreign Player Already Out the Door
The squad reshuffle has already begun. The first confirmed exit is Edmilson Dove, the Mozambican defender who has struggled with injuries over the past season.
He made just 10 appearances and, after joining from UD Songo in 2022, leaves Amakhosi having played 56 matches in total and scored twice.
Letting go of Dove opens up one of the five foreign player slots.
That leaves four more international players still on the roster—and possibly a few more heading for the exit.
Could Ntwari and Castillo Be Next?
Currently, the other foreign players at the club are:
-
Fiacre Ntwari (Rwanda goalkeeper)
-
Inacio Miguel
-
Edson Castillo (Venezuelan midfielder)
-
Glody Lilepo
Rumours suggest both Ntwari and Castillo could be sacrificed to free up space for the new potential signings.
Castillo is already 31, and with Kaizer Chiefs looking to refresh the squad, his time may be up.
Miguel and Lilepo Likely to Stay
On the flip side, both Miguel and Lilepo are expected to remain with the team.
Their first seasons were impressive enough to convince the Chiefs’ management that they deserve another shot.
Keeping them could bring some stability as the squad evolves.
Making Room for a New Generation of Foreign Stars
If Ntwari and Castillo follow Dove out the door, that would leave three open foreign player spots—just enough to welcome a new wave of talent.
And with players like Mayele and Salum on the Chiefs’ radar, the club could be planning something big for next season.
It’s also worth noting that Gaston Sirino, once considered a foreign player, is now a South African citizen after spending more than five years in the league.
That helps ease the foreign quota pressure for clubs pursuing him.
Your Thoughts on Chiefs’ Squad Reshuffle?
Kaizer Chiefs are clearly entering a new chapter, with high-profile players potentially coming in and veterans moving on.
The real question is: who should stay, and who should go?
