Kaizer Chiefs begin preseason training early as players return to Naturena ahead of Dutch camp in the Netherlands

While most Betway Premiership clubs are still enjoying their offseason break, Kaizer Chiefs have already rolled up their sleeves and got back to work.

After finishing a disappointing ninth last season, the team is clearly hungry to reset and rebuild.

Despite the league frustrations, Amakhosi ended the campaign on a high with a memorable 2-1 Nedbank Cup final win over rivals Orlando Pirates—snapping a painful 10-year trophy drought.

Now, they’re looking to build on that momentum.

Dutch Camp on the Horizon

Kaizer Chiefs won’t just be sweating it out at home.

The club is set to travel to the Netherlands from 3 to 19 July for a focused preseason training camp.

One of the highlights of that trip? A friendly match against Eredivisie club Utrecht FC, giving the squad a real European test before the domestic season resumes.

Back at Naturena for Testing and Fitness Work

On Friday, the senior squad returned to Naturena to begin the preseason grind. First up? Medicals and fitness tests.

This annual ritual helps the coaching staff assess every player’s readiness and condition after the offseason break.

Images shared on the club’s Instagram gave fans a sneak peek at players like Wandile Duba and Sibongiseni Mthethwa checking in.

But what really got people talking was the appearance of a fresh young face.

Meet Kabelo Nkgwesa: The Rising Star from the DDC

One of the standout arrivals on day one of preseason wasn’t a big-name signing—but a promotion.

Kabelo Nkgwesa, a 19-year-old star from the Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge team, has officially joined the senior squad for training.

Last season, Nkgwesa was a standout performer, winning both Most Improved Player and Player of the Season honors in the DDC.

Now, he’ll be looking to impress the coaches and fight for a spot in the first team.

Strengthening the Left Flank with Nkgwesa and Mako

Nkgwesa isn’t the only left-back catching attention.

Paseka Mako, who has joined from Orlando Pirates, is also in the mix as Amakhosi look to reinforce that position for the upcoming season.

The idea of pairing youth with experience on the left flank could prove vital for Chiefs’ balance in defense.

Mako brings PSL experience, while Nkgwesa offers youthful energy and raw talent.
