Kaizer Chiefs: Baxter reveals his number keeper before the Soweto derby

KAIZER CHIEFS COACH BAXTER CONFIRMS HIS NUMBER ONE KEEPER BEFORE THE SOWETO DERBY

As we’ve seen in the past three seasons, Itumeleng Khune is no longer Amakhosi’s number one goalkeeper, it’s obviously tough to take for Khune’s biggest fans.

While the likes of Daniel Akpeyi and Bruce Bvuma have stepped up in the past three seasons, the Ajax Cape Town academy product Brandon Petersen has truly arrived this season.

So, who is Baxter sticking with in goal at this moment and in the near future?

“The goalkeeper situation has not changed. The goalkeeper situation is that we’re very lucky that we have four goalkeepers who are competing very hard,” Baxter said as per iDiskiTimes.

“We have a younger variety to a more experienced variety and the two in the more experienced variety keep pushing every day.”

“At the moment, Brandon has got a hold of the [Nr.1] shirt. He’s had a couple of shutouts and he’s looking secure at the moment.”

“But he knows he’s under so much pressure from the others that that gives us a healthy competition,” the Kaizer Chiefs mentor concluded.

PIRATES HAVE AN ADVANTAGE OVER CHIEFS IN THE SOWETO DERBY SAYS JACKSON

Meanwhile, a former Orlando Pirates player, Willem Jackson, believes Bucs will have a slight advantage in the Soweto derby.

Following Kaizer Chiefs’ lack of action in midweek, Jackson feels that it was a crucial opportunity missed rather than a welcome rest.

While other observers have said Pirates players might be tired, Jackson believes there is no such thing, instead, it is training and mental preparation.

“People might say the boys are tired, but it’s an hour and a half of play, So it’s part of training, you preparing yourself for the weekend,” he said via Kick Off.
