After initially putting him on the transfer list, Kaizer Chiefs and Anthony Akumu Agay reached an agreement to end his contract early. The agreement was due to end in June 2023.

The Kenyan-born midfielder joined Chiefs in January 2020 from Zesco United in Zambia, where he netted twice in 47 games across all competitions.
