After an overwhelming number of COVID-19 cases swept the squad and staff last December, Kaizer Chiefs could not honour the fixtures against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows.
The Glamour Boys were thus taken to court with the risk of losing the six points. However, the club has now won the right to replay both games.
With three games in hand behind the log leaders Sundowns, we might have an exciting title race and conclusion after all.
SUNDOWNS’ POTENTIAL ‘SLIP-UPS’
There’s is no question how superior Kabo Yellow are to any club in the land. The sheer class is just on a much higher level than everybody else.
But football games can be dramatic. It is why Sundowns, with all the magic, have six draws and two losses this season.
Below are the four potential ‘slip-up’ fixtures that Kaizer Chiefs fans can put their money on…
6 April – Swallows (Away) – It’s against a desperate relegation fighter with a high volume of former Orlando Pirates, Sundowns, and Amakhosi players with a point to prove.
26 April – Cape Town City (Home) – Sundowns played City twice this season. Both games ended in draws, while the one match was won on penalties to crown Sundowns as MTN8 champions.
6 May – Kaizer Chiefs (Away) – What can we say about this game? It’s a potential title decider!
14 May – Stellenbosch (Home) – Sundowns needed a stoppage-time equaliser as well as an extra-time goal to beat Stellies in the Nedbank Cup, while the league game ended in a 1-1 draw.
So will Sundowns drop any points to allow Kaizer Chiefs to close in? We shall find out in the coming weeks.
