Johannesburg Police arrest suspects for attempted murder, kidnapping, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and a hijacked motor vehicle

In Meadowlands, Soweto, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s (JMPD) K9 Unit detained a 50-year-old man for attempted murder, kidnapping, possession of an unregistered firearm, ammunition, and a hijacked car.

While performing crime prevention patrols on Saturday, July 9, 2022, authorities received a lookout for a Toyota Quantum that had been hijacked in Langlaagte and the driver had been taken hostage during the hijacking.

In Meadowlands, police officers saw the hijacked car driving down Odendaal Street.

They made an effort to halt the car, but the suspects took off quickly, leading to a high-speed chase.

Officers continued to pursue the suspects as they opened fire on them.

The culprits were cornered at Hlungwane Street after crashing into other cars in an effort to escape the police.

The officers shot one suspect, but he was able to escape even after being wounded.

The motorist was detained after being discovered in possession of an unauthorized gun bearing the serial number…
