JetBlue passenger claims to be the Devil, punches female friend on diverted Boston-bound flight

Unruly Passenger Forces Emergency Landing on JetBlue Flight

Passengers aboard a JetBlue flight from Fort Lauderdale to Boston experienced a harrowing incident that led to an emergency landing in Orlando.

The disruption unfolded when a male passenger, who later identified himself as ‘the devil,’ initiated a violent episode, culminating in a five-hour delay for the affected travelers.

Mid-Air Chaos and Violent Outburst

The disturbance began as the unruly passenger verbally threatened those around him, asserting his identity as ‘the devil.’

The situation escalated when he physically assaulted a female companion accompanying him on the flight.

Fearing for the woman’s safety, flight attendants resorted to placing her in the aircraft’s bathroom, where the assailant persistently attempted to gain access by repeatedly punching the door.

Emergency Diversion and Law Enforcement Intervention

In response to the escalating violence, JetBlue Flight 170 was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Orlando.

The disruptive passenger was subsequently removed from the plane with the assistance of law enforcement.

A video captured the moment as police officers escorted the agitated individual, who was wearing a hoodie and a baseball cap, off the aircraft.

Pilot’s Explanation and Unplanned Delay

The pilot, addressing the concerned passengers after the incident, revealed that the disruptive individual had been attacking another passenger, necessitating a discreet response to prevent further agitation.

Despite the unscheduled diversion, the pilot opted not to disclose the change in travel plans initially.

The remaining passengers had to disembark in Orlando, leading to a five-hour delay as the plane required refueling and a new crew before resuming the journey to Boston.

Unruly Passenger’s Fate and JetBlue’s Response

Contrary to expectations, the unruly passenger responsible for the disturbance was not arrested.

Authorities in Orlando explained that the individual was intoxicated and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.

However, JetBlue made it clear that they would not compensate passengers for the delay and the disturbances encountered during the incident.

The airline cited the disruption as an uncontrollable event outside of their jurisdiction, thus not qualifying for customer compensation or reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses.
