Japanese Wrestling Legend The Great Muta Criticizes Wetherspoons Ramen After Dining with Mark Henry in Manchester

Legendary Japanese wrestler The Great Muta may have been prepared for anything inside the ring, but nothing could brace him for the surprise that awaited him at a British pub.

The WWE Hall-of-Famer, whose real name is Keiji Muto, recently flew to Manchester for a fan convention, only to find himself unimpressed by the food offerings at Wetherspoons, one of the UK’s most popular pub chains.

His reaction? Disgust, especially when it came to a particular bowl of ramen.

A Star-Studded Wrestling Event

Muto, 62, was in town for For the Love of Wrestling, Europe’s biggest wrestling convention, held at the BEC Arena.

The event brought together legendary figures from the sport, including Mark Henry, a WWE veteran of 25 years, and Debra McMichael, among others.

While the weekend was packed with fan interactions, autographs, and nostalgic moments, the wrestling stars also took time to explore the city.

That led Muto and Henry to Bishop Blaize, a Wetherspoons pub located near Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, where they decided to grab a bite.

Disappointed by British Pub Food

Eager to try something familiar, Muto ordered a chicken katsu curry—a staple Japanese dish—and a ramen noodle bowl.

The meal, paired with an alcoholic drink, was reasonably priced at £8.82.

But even the drink couldn’t mask his disappointment.

Taking to social media, Muto shared a photo of himself looking repulsed while sitting with Henry and other wrestling friends.

While he described the katsu curry as “okay,” his verdict on the ramen was far less forgiving.

“But as for ramen… what the heck is this?!” he posted on X (formerly Twitter), alongside a picture of his visibly disgusted reaction.

A Second Attempt at Wetherspoons

Despite his initial disappointment, Muto gave the pub another chance, returning on a different evening to try a steak dinner.

While his thoughts on the steak remain unclear, his willingness to revisit suggests it may have been a better experience than the ramen fiasco.

Other Wrestlers Who Weren’t Impressed

Muto isn’t the first wrestling star to be underwhelmed by Wetherspoons’ food.

AEW superstar Mercedes Moné had a similar reaction when she tried the chain’s Full English breakfast during a trip to the UK last year.

Sharing a photo of the meal on Instagram, she summed up her thoughts in just one word: “oh.”

The Great Muta’s Legendary Career

Despite his culinary misadventure, Muto’s legacy in wrestling remains untouchable.

Though he never competed in WWE, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in March 2023, recognizing his immense contributions to the sport over a remarkable 39-year career.

Muto captured nine heavyweight championships and became known for his signature moves—the Muta Lock submission and the Shining Wizard.

While his peak years were in the 1980s, he continued competing until 2023, even facing off against WWE star Shinsuke Nakamura in one of his final matches.

What’s Next for The Great Muta?

Though retired from the ring, Muto continues to make appearances at wrestling events worldwide.

Whether he’ll give British pub food another chance remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—next time, he might think twice before ordering ramen in the UK!
