It became imperative to gave Dillon Sheppard and Arthur Zwane a chance – Kaizer Chiefs’ football manager Bobby Motaung

Bobby Motaung, the manager of Kaizer Chiefs, believes it is critical to give Dillon Sheppard and Arthur Zwane an opportunity.

He believes Arthur Zwane and Dillon Shepperd are well-suited to deal with the club’s current trophy drought. Chiefs haven’t lifted any trouphy since the 2014/15 season and have changed coaches without success.

After aiding Gavin Hunt and Stuart Baxter, Zwane and Shepperd were hired on three-year contracts as coach and assistant coach, respectively.

He said:

“Different coaches have different challenges and fortunes. As a club, we play with a particular philosophy and every coach that comes in changes that,” Motaung said.

“We’ve reached Cup finals and once finished second in the league, but we didn’t achieve, so there are different factors to that.

“We didn’t say those people failed, but we’re trying to address those challenges, and keeping Arthur and Dillon explains that because they’ve seen the challenges.

“Football is about fortune and luck and what if they change dramatically this season? Some coaches came in and didn’t understand our challenges and inherited them.

“The difference is that with people who have been in the system, they understand the challenges better and deal better with them.”

“There’s been something good with what they have been doing and one of them has been continuity,” Motaung said.

“When Pitso Mosimane left Sundowns, there was continuity in their staff, so maybe that’s something we’ve been needing to tap into.

“That helps sustain the culture of the club, and Arthur, along with the guys in the technical team also understand this.”

On the issue of players:

“May I please allow those news to happen at the right time. We’ve announced the coaches and they’ve been part of the acquisition processes,” Motaung said.

“They’ve been part of the announcements as to who is coming and going. Those who are leaving have also been informed.

“Let’s allow the issue of the players who are leaving to be announced in due course.

“There will be a couple of additions and changes to the technical team, but like the players, those announcements will be made at a later stage,” Motaung said.

“Whatever we are doing, we are doing together with the coaches and they are part of the process.”
