For three one-day international matches commencing this week against the Proteas, India appointed opener Shikhar Dhawan as captain on Sunday.

The batsman Shreyas Iyer was appointed Shikhar Dhawan’s replacement in the BCCI’s 16-player team for the ODIs.

Iyer, along with ODI colleagues Ravi Bishnoi and Deepak Chahar, are still on the standby list for this month’s T20 World Cup. All three players are anticipated to go to Australia to join the T20 squad after the South Africa series.

Tuesday marks the conclusion of a T20 series between the two nations. In Lucknow, the ODI matches begin on Thursday.

Shikhar Dhawan is the captain of the ODI team, along with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Rajat Patidar, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, Mohammed Siraj, and Deepak Chahar.
