Sadiya Umar Farouq, Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, has expressed his condolences to the victims of recent explosions in different states of the Federation.
While sympathizing with the victims of the explosion and the governments of Imo, Lagos, and Ogun States, Minister Sadiya Umar Farouq termed the incidents as “constant, tragic, yet avoidable.”

Previously, scores of people were killed in an explosion at an illicit oil refinery site, and a tanker carrying 45,000 litres of PMS crashed and spilt its contents across Lagos and Ogun States, killing one man.
Umar Farouq advised prudence when transporting inflammable items on the highways, and declared the unlawful bunkering of petrol in specific regions to be suicidal.
“The frequent explosions in Lagos and Imo states are terrible, but they may be avoided.” The effects of such heinous deeds, which resulted in the deaths of countless individuals, cannot be overstated. Because illegal bunkering of petroleum products is a criminal act, the perpetrators should be brought to justice and face the full force of the law. I send my heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and pray for the souls of the deceased.

“I further appeal to the public, particularly the youths, to refrain from illicit petroleum product bunkering in the area,” the Minister lamented.
Meanwhile, rescue operations have begun to remove many remains that have been burned beyond recognition at the blast site in Imo state.
