The Nigerian House of Representatives has mandated its Committees on Petroleum Resources (Downstream and Upstream), and Gas Resources to investigate the recent hike in the prices of diesel and cooking gas in the country.
The committees are to find out the reasons for the unexplained astronomical increase in the prices of the products with a view to ensuring that a reasonable price is fixed to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians.

Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila gave the directive after a motion on the need to investigate the matter unanimously adopted at the plenary.

Sponsor of the motion, Chike Okafor from Imo State lamented at the outrageous rise in the price of diesel as the product which was sold between N280 to N350 per liter three weeks ago is currently being sold above N780 per liter.

Mr. Okafor expressed concern over the possible inflationary pressure envisaged from the rise in the cost of diesel.
