Heartbroken mother condemns efforts to overturn Lucy Letby’s conviction as painful and disrespectful

A devastated mother whose baby was among Lucy Letby’s victims has spoken out against what she calls a “publicity stunt” aimed at overturning the former nurse’s convictions.

She expressed deep anger and frustration over efforts by a panel of experts who claim Letby was wrongfully convicted, calling the attempts “disrespectful” and “upsetting.”

The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is appalled by the push to clear Letby’s name.

“We already know the truth,” she said.

“We believe in the British justice system and we believe the jury made the right decision.”

Experts Claim Miscarriage of Justice

A team of international medical experts, led by retired Canadian doctor Shoo Lee, presented a report arguing that the babies harmed or killed under Letby’s care were victims of medical negligence rather than deliberate attacks.

The panel’s findings were shared during a two-hour press conference, where they announced they had submitted an application to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) in an attempt to appeal Letby’s convictions.

Dr. Lee acknowledged the pain of the families involved, insisting that their goal was to “tell the truth” about what really happened.

However, this claim was met with outrage by parents of the victims. “They don’t speak for us,” the grieving mother said.

Anger Toward Politicians Involved

The mother also condemned the involvement of Conservative MP David Davis, who has been actively supporting efforts to clear Letby’s name.

She revealed that she had previously emailed him to voice her concerns, only to be ignored.

“He’s abusing his position to push this campaign,” she said.

During the press conference, Davis introduced Dr. Lee as the “star of the show” and referred to the affected babies by numbers instead of their names—a move the mother described as “screaming disrespect.”

She was particularly disturbed by a moment when panel members laughed after a phone alarm went off, right after discussing an alarm silencing incident at the hospital.

“It felt like they were mocking what happened,” she said. “It was extremely distasteful and inappropriate.”

Letby’s Legal Fight Continues

Lucy Letby, 35, is currently serving 15 whole life orders for the murder of seven infants and attempted murder of seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016.

She has made multiple attempts to appeal her convictions, all of which have been rejected by the Court of Appeal.

Despite this, her legal team remains determined, with barrister Mark McDonald stating that Letby is closely following developments from her prison cell and “has hope” for eventual release.

Investigation and Inquiry Ongoing

Authorities continue to investigate Letby in connection with additional cases of infant deaths and attacks over her five-year nursing career.

Cheshire Police recently conducted an interview with Letby in prison as part of their continued probe.

Meanwhile, a public inquiry is underway to examine how she was able to commit her crimes undetected for so long, with findings expected to be released later this year.

The mother of one of Letby’s victims remains steadfast in her belief that justice was served.

“We have total confidence in Cheshire Constabulary,” she said.

“We trust their work and their ongoing investigation.”

As the legal battle over Letby’s conviction continues, families of the victims remain united in their grief—and in their firm belief that the jury’s decision should stand.
