Cardiff, Wales – Heartfelt tributes and cherished photos have been shared by the families of two teenagers who tragically lost their lives in a fatal crash in Cardiff.
The local community had previously identified the victims as Harvey Evans, aged 15, and Kyrees Sullivan, aged 16. South Wales Police have now confirmed their identities.
The police responded to a serious crash on Snowden Road in Ely at 6:03 pm on Monday, May 22.
However, questions have been raised about the police’s involvement in the events leading up to the crash, as CCTV footage surfaced showing a police van following two individuals on a bike on Frank Road, approximately 900 meters (2,953 feet) away from the suspected crash site.
South Wales Police has stated that the CCTV footage will be included in their investigation and clarified that no police vehicle was present on Snowden Road at the time of the crash.
Following a self-referral by South Wales Police, the Independent Office for Police Conduct has confirmed that it will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The families of Harvey and Kyrees have now released touching tributes to their beloved boys through the police.
Paying tribute to 15-year-old Harvey, his family expressed their profound grief and described him as a much-loved son, grandson, brother, nephew, friend, and boyfriend.
They highlighted his zest for life, his caring nature, and his deep sense of empathy.
They also acknowledged his strong friendship with Kyrees, extending their thoughts and prayers to his family.
In the aftermath of the crash, riots erupted in Ely on Monday night, with approximately 150 people participating in a large disturbance that involved car fires and the hurling of fireworks at the police.
Harvey’s family has appealed for peace, urging the community to allow the police to conduct their investigation so that they can find the answers they desperately need to lay their son to rest.
Harvey’s mother wishes to remember him as the fun-loving and caring son he was, rather than how the media may portray him.
In their tribute, Kyrees’ family described him as a loving, caring, and handsome young man who was cherished by his parents, siblings, extended family, and community.
They highlighted the special bond between Kyrees, Harvey, and their friend Niall, emphasizing their popularity, the fun times they shared, and the love they received from their loved ones and the community.
The family expressed gratitude for the kind words, flowers, and messages they have received since their son’s passing.
Both boys’ schools have also paid tribute to them.
Greenhill School, where Kyrees attended, expressed their deep sorrow and described him as someone who could always bring a smile to those around him.
Bryn-y-Deryn School, where Harvey was a popular member, remembered him as an able learner with a bright smile, a passion for sports, and a talent for engaging in meaningful debates.
The school community is devastated by the loss of this kind and family-oriented young man.
