Nigeria, known as Africa’s most populous nation, is grappling with some of the most pressing health and development issues globally.
Among the most urgent is improving maternal, newborn, and child health.
Despite numerous efforts over the years, the country still struggles with some of the highest maternal and child mortality rates worldwide.
In addition, there are persistent challenges related to morbidity, undernutrition, and overall human development.
These issues are deeply intertwined with poverty, limited healthcare access, and a weak food system, highlighting the need for transformative solutions.
The Aim of Grand Challenges Nigeria’s Request for Proposals
Grand Challenges Nigeria (GCNg) is launching a Request for Proposals (RFP) to address these critical issues.
The goal is to find bold, innovative solutions that can significantly improve maternal, newborn, and child health across Nigeria.
Through this initiative, GCNg hopes to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensure a healthier future for Nigerians.
RFP Funding Opportunity and Objectives
GCNg is seeking innovative and scalable projects that are tailored to local contexts.
The funding will support interventions that prioritize human health and development.
The RFP offers seed grants of up to 60 million Nigerian Naira, with project implementation periods ranging from 12 to 15 months.
The final grant amount will depend on the scope, needs, and proposed budget of the projects.
Applicants are encouraged to submit realistic budgets reflecting the actual costs necessary to achieve project objectives.
A maximum of ten projects will be funded.
Eligibility Criteria and How to Apply
Eligible applicants must be affiliated with registered Nigerian institutions or organizations with a proven track record in maternal, newborn, and child health.
All projects must be implemented within Nigeria.
While GCNg encourages applications from both local and international collaborators, the lead applicant must be Nigerian.
For additional details, applicants should consult the ‘Rules and Guidelines’ document.
What GCNg is Looking For
GCNg is particularly interested in projects that address significant health challenges affecting large populations.
Proposals should focus on creating lasting, scalable impact and include active stakeholder involvement to ensure that interventions are relevant and effective.
A Strategic Investment in Nigeria’s Future
This RFP represents a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future, aiming to foster a new generation of innovators who will work to improve health outcomes and drive sustainable development across the country.
By tackling these pressing issues now, GCNg hopes to pave the way for a healthier and more prosperous Nigeria.
