Gombe State: Governor Yahaya swears in Acting Chief Judge

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has sworn in Acting Chief Judge of Gombe State, Justice Joseph Ahmed Awak.

This is the sequel to the retirement of former Acting Chief Judge, Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga, who served in the capacity from 2019 to January 2022.

Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Yahaya thanked Justice Pindiga for his contributions in the administration of justice in the state and humanity, while praying for his good health and prosperity during retirement.

 “The retirement of the former Ag Chief Judge has ushered in the appointment of the most Senior Judge in ranks at the High Court of Justice a new Ag Chief Judge in the person of Hon Joseph A.

Awak.

I congratulate you for this well-deserved appointment and wish you all the very best in discharging your duties for the benefit of our dear State,” said Governor Yahaya.

For Justice Awak, Governor Yahaya said as a respectable Judge deserving of this appointment, Justice Awak was dedicated, experienced, principles, and forthright, hence making him a worthy occupant of this exalted seat.

According to Governor Yahaya, he is confident of his ability and qualities to take the Gombe State Judiciary to the next level.

“My Lord, the Acting Chief Judge, with your oath-taking, constitutionally it has made you head of the Judiciary, the third arm of Government in the State.

As the administrative head, we urge you to dispense justice to all manner of people in the State, without discrimination, fear, or favour.


He pledged his administration’s continued support for the Judiciary and Legislature in discharging their statutory responsibilities effectively for the overall benefit of the good people of Gombe State.

Similarly, Governor Yahaya reiterated the desires of the administration to have harmonious working relations with both the Judiciary and the Legislature, so that the three arms of Government would partner for the development of Gombe State.

“I wish to further assure the entire members of the Judiciary that we would continue to make available all necessary facilities and funding that will enhance efficiency and the speedy administration of justice in this State,” Governor Yahaya said.

Justice Joseph Ahmed Awak was born on the 5th of October 1957 in Awak, Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State and was a High Court Judge with the Gombe State Judiciary.

He takes over as the next most senior Judge in the State.
