In a fresh twist in South African football, former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Gift Motupa has signed with DStv Premiership team Magesi FC, according to FARPost.

This move comes after Motupa’s stint as a free agent following his unexpected exit from Baroka FC last season.

Motupa joined Baroka FC shortly after leaving Sundowns, but his time there was brief.

The 29-year-old found himself on the sidelines for much of his tenure and decided to part ways with Baroka midway through the 2023/24 PSL season.

Despite Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele’s desire to keep him long-term, Motupa was ready for a new opportunity.

Training with SuperSport United

In January, Motupa trained with SuperSport United under his former coach, Gavin Hunt, in hopes of securing a new contract.

However, it seems that the opportunity with Magesi FC has now become his new focus.

FARPost has confirmed that Motupa started training with Magesi FC earlier this week.

As the club prepares for their debut in the Premiership, they have shown strong interest in signing the striker.

Motupa will be joining several other new faces at Magesi, including Kgaogelo Sekgota, Delano Abrahams from the University of Pretoria, and Tshepo Kakora from La Masia.

Magesi FC’s New Additions

In addition to Motupa, Magesi FC has brought on Papi Zothwane as an assistant coach.

Zothwane, who previously worked with Leopards under Solly Luvhengo, will now contribute to Magesi’s coaching staff.

Other Trialists at Magesi FC

Previously, it was reported that former Kaizer Chiefs left-back Yagan Sasman had been training with Magesi FC.

However, the 28-year-old, who was unattached after leaving Swedish side AFC Eskilstuna earlier this year, has since stopped training with the club after not meeting the technical team’s expectations.

Magesi FC is set to unveil their new squad in the coming weeks.

The club has assured fans that their technical team and management have been diligently preparing for their Premiership journey, with announcements about new acquisitions on the horizon.
