‘Future VP’ Inday Sara is not power-hungry – Roque

UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque has praised the political foresight and humility of top vice-presidential candidate Sara Duterte, catalyzing the dominant North-South alliance with presidential frontrunner Ferdinand. “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.
“Inday Sara is not power-hungry. Other power-mad politicos with strong ties to Malacanang would have grabbed the first opportunity to run for president,” Roque said.
“She made a calibrated and well-thought decision to give way to Apo Bongbong, who has the best government executive experience among the presidentiables,” said Roque.
“This is political wisdom beyond her years.”
Roque recalled that the former Davao City mayor had topped various presidential surveys before filing her vice-presidential candidacy in November 2021.
“Inday Sara could have banked her presidential bid on available government resources and political machinery as a daughter of President Duterte, but she has ‘delicate’ and integrity,” Roque said.
A former presidential spokesman, Roque, disclosed that Duterte independently runs and manages her vice-presidential campaign. Early this month, she launched a nationwide “Mahalin Natin ang Pilipinas” caravan.
Roque said he believed that the young Duterte wants to serve the country as vice-president and Cabinet member to fully grasp the executive branch’s functions in nation-building and national recovery.
The health and human rights advocate also thanked the incumbent Davao City Mayor for giving him the same political and personal support she has extended to Marcos.
“Our national political careers are interlinked,” Roque said. “I am glad that Inday Sara is aligned with my legislative agenda on health, food and potable water, job creation, and justice system reforms.”
He added: “As a local government executive for nine years, Inday Sara knows that my priority legislation is responsive to the needs of the people in most if not all local government units.”
The former member of the 17th Congress was also the principal author of the Universal Health Care law, free wi-fi in public places, free irrigation for farmers, national AIDS law, and free tuition for state university and college students.
Roque recounted taking immediate notice of Duterte the first time she burst into the national consciousness after a violent altercation with a court sheriff in 2011.
Saying that Duterte has since apologized to the sheriff and the nation for her action, Roque said, “the incidence showed her heart for the underprivileged and political resolve to address the problems of ordinary citizens.”
“As a lawyer and former judicial clerk of a Supreme Court Justice, Inday Sara knows our legal system and judicial process,” Roque said.
“This is a plus factor for an executive leader since our government operates on a system of laws.”
