Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney, a Super Bowl champion, has come forward to shut down rumors suggesting he was retiring from football to focus on a music career.
Toney, who is currently a free agent, took to social media to address the speculation.
The 26-year-old, known in the music world as “Yung Joka,” used an Instagram story on Thursday night to clarify the situation.
He dismissed the rumors claiming he was quitting football, saying, “Goofies on the net hollerin I’m retiring… just want clout,” while expressing his love for music.
He also emphasized that music has always been a big part of his life, sharing, “Love da attention for my music tho.
It’s been a passion.” While he’s been on the radar for his musical pursuits, it’s clear that Toney still holds football close to his heart.
Toney’s Rocky Road in the NFL
Kadarius Toney’s career in the NFL has been a bit of a rollercoaster.
The former first-round draft pick from the University of Florida started his professional career with the New York Giants in 2021.
During his time there, he showed his potential, with standout performances like a 189-yard receiving game.
However, injuries held him back, and after a brief and tumultuous stint with the Giants, he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022.
With the Chiefs, Toney enjoyed significant success, helping the team win two Super Bowls.
But by 2023, he had become somewhat of a non-factor in Kansas City, leading to the team declining his fifth-year option.
He later signed with the Cleveland Browns but was released by December, and as of now, Toney remains unsigned.
Controversies and Legal Issues
Toney’s career took another turn when he found himself in the middle of a legal controversy.
In January 2025, he was accused of assaulting a woman who was later revealed to be pregnant.
The incident, which took place in Douglasville, Georgia, resulted in Toney being arrested on charges of aggravated assault-strangulation and obstructing 911 calls.
Audio footage from a 911 call revealed that the woman, allegedly his girlfriend, had red marks on her neck and bruising in her eyes.
She claimed to have fled their home barefoot and sought refuge at a neighbor’s house.
While she declined medical attention, the police report indicated that the marks were consistent with strangulation.
The details surrounding the case have drawn significant attention, though Toney has yet to make any public statements regarding the incident.
The Road Ahead for Toney
Despite the turmoil surrounding his personal life and football career, Toney’s passion for music continues to shine through.
While he’s not currently signed to any NFL team, his music career as “Yung Joka” is something he holds dear.
Whether or not Toney will return to the NFL remains uncertain, but his dedication to his musical pursuits is undeniable.
