Anthony Stokes, the former striker for Celtic and Arsenal, finds himself behind bars for a minimum of 30 days after voluntarily handing himself over to Scottish police.
The 35-year-old was sent to jail by magistrates on Friday following his return from Dublin, where he had absconded to, coinciding with concerns about his ailing mother.

Stokes had been on bail in Scotland, awaiting sentencing over a series of offensive text messages sent to his former partner, Eilidh Scott, and her father.
His departure to Dublin resulted in two instances of failing to comply with bail conditions, requiring him to present himself at a police station.
Knowing that time in custody awaited him, Stokes returned to Scotland on Thursday night and voluntarily surrendered at Motherwell police station.
