The Minister of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Malam Mohammed Bello has said that the importance of improving the FCT’s internally generated revenue cannot be overstated if they are to fulfill their mandate and meet their objectives of building for Nigeria, a world-class capital city.

The minister made this know while delivering his goodwill message at the closing ceremony of the workshop for FCTA Revenue Officers organised by the Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public Private Partnership, PPP, Secretariat in Abuja.

Bello who commended the secretariat for organising the workshop said that the programme has imparted to the revenue officers the necessary knowledge and skills that will enable them improve revenue generation for the FCT Administration.

“Although we currently rank second (only to Lagos State) in internally generated revenue amongst our nation’s sub nationals, it is no secret that what we generate, (no matter how seemingly impressive) is a far cry from what we require to fulfill our mandate,” Bello said.

The minister further said that what was more important and worthy of note is that the FCT has the potential to be the highest internal revenue-generating subnational in Nigeria.

He  extended the appreciation of the FCT administration to Havilah Integrated Group for sponsoring the workshop, that the FCTA is indeed quite grateful and has been informed that Havilah Integrated Group is also working hard in the FCT education sector as well, with the upgrading of library facilities in some of the schools.

“We are encouraged by your gesture to also strengthen our partnership with members of the organized private sector that are ready to give back to society through their Corporate Social Responsibility programmes,” the minister said.
