In a surprising turn of events, the FBI has arrested Linda Sun, the former deputy chief of staff to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and her husband, Chris Hu.
Their arrest took place on Tuesday in Manhasset, Long Island, as reported by Newsday.
Home Search and Investigation
Earlier this year, federal officials conducted a search at the couple’s luxurious $3.5 million mansion, a five-bedroom property they bought in 2021 within the Stone Hill gated community.
Records show that earlier this year, they placed the home in a trust.
FBI’s Silence on Charges
The FBI has not revealed details about the charges against the couple.
The couple is scheduled to appear in Brooklyn court on Tuesday afternoon.
Linda Sun’s Career Path
Linda Sun had a notable career in state government.
She worked for nearly 15 years, starting as the chief of staff for a state lawmaker and later holding roles in former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration.
In September 2021, she was appointed as deputy chief of staff for Governor Hochul.
In November 2022, Sun transitioned to a role at the New York Department of Labor as deputy commissioner for strategic business development but left the position in March 2023.
Reports suggest she was dismissed after evidence of misconduct surfaced.
Law enforcement was notified about the situation, although specifics about the alleged misconduct remain undisclosed.
Post-Government Career
After leaving state government, Sun took on the role of campaign manager for Democrat Austin Cheng’s unsuccessful Congressional bid on Long Island.
So, what’s next for Sun and Hu? We’ll have to wait and see how the legal proceedings unfold.
