In a shocking and deeply moving revelation, the families of six Israeli hostages who were murdered by Hamas have released videos showing their final months alive.
The clips, previously unseen by the public, offer an intimate and chilling glimpse into life inside captivity — a stark reminder of the human cost of the conflict.
The footage, filmed by Hamas but later recovered by the Israel Defense Forces during operations in Gaza, was aired on Israeli television in the days leading up to Hanukkah.
It shows the hostages together inside a tunnel, months before their tragic deaths in August 2024.
Captured Moments Inside Hamas Tunnels
The videos focus on Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Almog Sarusi, Ori Danino, and Alex Lobanov.
Unlike typical propaganda clips, these recordings capture longer, more candid interactions between the hostages.
One of the most haunting moments shows the captives marking Hanukkah in December 2023.
With makeshift candles fashioned from paper cups, they sang the traditional song Ma’oz Tzur.
The clip was recorded roughly 80 days into their captivity — eight months before their deaths.
In another scene, the hostages quietly celebrate New Year’s Eve, sharing a piece of fruit, while their captors attempted to stage an illusion of “normal” life.
Voices Amid the Silence
What sets this footage apart from previous hostage videos is its humanity.
The hostages speak to one another, sharing memories, discussing their different religious backgrounds, and reflecting on life before captivity.
At one point, Goldberg-Polin draws a haunting parallel to history, comparing their situation to Jews living under Nazi rule.
“You can see that picture of the Hanukkiah with a [Nazi flag] above it,” he says, offering a stark reminder of their awareness and the psychological toll of their imprisonment.
Hours of Video Now Public
Until recently, this material had been shown only to the victims’ families.
Israeli forces recovered hours of footage, portions of which were broadcast by Channel 12’s investigative programme Uvda.
The recordings were never officially released by Hamas, who originally filmed them for propaganda purposes.
Despite the intent behind their creation, the clips now serve as a testament to the humanity and resilience of the six hostages, capturing moments of warmth, faith, and solidarity even in the darkest of circumstances.
A Haunting Reminder Before Hanukkah
As Israel prepares to observe Hanukkah this year, these images serve as both a memorial and a chilling reminder of the personal stories behind headlines.
For the families, the footage offers a chance to see the voices and personalities of their loved ones, frozen in time, months before their tragic deaths.
The release also underscores the ongoing impact of the conflict and the courage of those who endured unimaginable conditions in captivity.
