Estevao Willian, the talented wonderkid on his way to Chelsea, has made headlines by breaking a record once held by none other than Neymar.
The excitement around this 17-year-old talent continues to build since Chelsea announced his signing from Palmeiras back in May.
The deal, valued at £28 million, could potentially increase to £55 million with add-ons.
A Bright Future Ahead
Estevao is set to join Chelsea in the summer after he turns 18, and he’s making quite an impact in Brazil’s Serie A.
Just recently, he contributed a goal and an assist in Palmeiras’ thrilling 5-3 victory over Juventude, bringing his total for the season to an impressive 18 goal contributions.
This achievement has made him the most productive under-17 player in the league’s history.
Outshining Neymar’s Record
The record he broke was previously held by Neymar, who notched up 16 goals and assists while playing for Santos back in 2009.
Estevao’s remarkable performances have garnered attention across Brazil, earning him the nickname ‘Messinho’ or ‘Little Messi’—though he isn’t particularly fond of that title.
He has already made his mark on the international stage, with two caps for Brazil, having participated in World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Ecuador last month.
Competition from Europe’s Elite
During the summer, Estevao was a hot commodity, with Europe’s biggest clubs, including Barcelona, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain, all vying for his signature.
Despite the fierce competition, the allure of Chelsea was irresistible for the young winger, who ultimately decided to turn down several of football’s most prestigious clubs in favor of a move to Stamford Bridge in 2025.
Following Neymar’s Legacy
As Estevao prepares for his future with Chelsea, the club hopes he can follow in Neymar’s footsteps, establishing himself as one of the top talents of his generation.
Interestingly, Chelsea has also secured another promising player, Kendry Paez, a 17-year-old from Independiente Del Valle in Ecuador, who has agreed to join the club once he turns 18 next year.
With such young talent on the horizon, Chelsea fans have plenty to look forward to!
