Eskom has downgraded daytime load shedding from Stage 4 to Stage 3 for the rest of this week

For the remainder of this week, Eskom has reduced daytime load shedding from Stage 4 to Stage 3.

This is happening while the power company makes ongoing efforts to stabilize the generation capacity after at least two weeks of numerous malfunctions and a power plant strike.

“Stage 3 load shedding, formerly known as Stage 4, will take place on Wednesday and Thursday from 5 am to 4 pm.

On both days, load shedding will be enforced at Stage 4 between 4 p.m. and [midnight].

As some units restart, Eskom expects to apply lower levels of load shedding over the weekend.

Eskom will inform and make any necessary adjustments if anything changes during that time, the power company said in a statement.

The electricity provider also mentioned that there are currently 14 867MW of capacity unusable owing to breakdowns and 3 934MW of generation capacity out for planned maintenance.

Load shedding will continue to be applied in stages as long as the generation capacity limitations last over the upcoming weeks.

Eskom warns the general population that the restoration of the electricity producing system will still take a few weeks.

In order to protect the national grid, load shedding is only used as a last resort. Eskom would like to remind the public.

As a result, Eskom urged all South Africans to continue using electricity cautiously, particularly during this period of uncertainty for the power system.
