England all-rounder Jacob Bethell will miss the upcoming edition of The Hundred after suffering a knee injury during the recent one-day international series against India.
The setback comes just days before the tournament begins and rules the 22-year-old out of what was set to be a significant milestone in his career.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that Bethell underwent an MRI scan on Monday following the injury.
However, the governing body has not provided a timeline for his recovery or indicated when he is expected to return to competitive cricket.

Bethell had been appointed captain of Birmingham Phoenix for this year’s competition, marking his first opportunity to lead the franchise.
Missing the tournament means he also loses the chance to build on his growing leadership credentials, with many viewing him as a future captain for England.
His leadership potential has already been recognized at the international level after he captained England during a T20 series against Ireland last year, reinforcing the high regard in which he is held by selectors and team management.

The injury interrupts a period of impressive performances from Bethell, who has continued to establish himself as one of England’s brightest young all-rounders.
He delivered one of his standout displays in the deciding ODI against India at Lord’s, scoring 91 runs at the top of the batting order before also contributing with the ball by claiming figures of 1-49.

Donovan Ferreira Takes Charge of Birmingham Phoenix
South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira has been named as Bethell’s replacement as captain of Birmingham Phoenix.
Ferreira brings considerable experience to the role, having already won The Hundred title twice with Oval Invincibles.
Phoenix will begin their campaign against Trent Rockets at Edgbaston on Friday evening, with Ferreira now leading the side into the competition.
England’s Test Preparations Continue
Although Bethell will miss The Hundred, attention will also turn to whether the injury affects his international availability.
England are scheduled to begin their Test series against Pakistan on 19 August, though the ECB has yet to clarify whether the all-rounder could feature.
