Emma Raducanu gets back to competition at Indian Wells after being granted extra security in response to frightening stalking ordeal in Dubai

Emma Raducanu is preparing to make her return to competitive tennis at Indian Wells next week, having been offered additional security following a distressing stalking incident in Dubai.

Traumatizing Experience in Dubai

The 22-year-old British star endured a frightening ordeal when a man followed her across four countries over the span of a month.

The situation escalated when he approached her in Dubai, prompting Raducanu to report the incident to tournament officials.

Matters worsened when the same individual appeared at her second-round match, leaving her visibly shaken and in tears.

Authorities intervened quickly, ejecting and detaining the man.

Although she initially considered pressing charges, Raducanu ultimately agreed to drop them after he signed a restraining order, pledging to stay away from her.

Returning to the Tour with Added Protection

Despite the unsettling experience, Raducanu has decided to resume her season at one of the most prestigious tournaments in tennis.

Indian Wells, often referred to as the “fifth Grand Slam,” begins on March 5, and Raducanu’s ranking of No. 55 guarantees her a place in the main draw.

Given the recent events, organizers have assured her of increased security measures throughout the tournament, ensuring she can focus on her performance without concerns for her safety.

Coaching Situation and Road Ahead

As Raducanu continues her search for a permanent coach, she will be working with Tom Welsh, a former hitting partner of Leylah Fernandez—the player she defeated in the 2021 US Open final.

Welsh, who coaches at the Loughborough Tennis Academy, will be in her corner as she looks to regain top form.

With extra security in place and a new coaching setup, Raducanu is determined to put the past behind her and shift her focus back to competing at the highest level.
