But on the flip side, the poll also highlighted some of the best things to come out of the country, like Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, and groundbreaking medical innovations like the CAT scan and heart transplant.

Despite being born in Pretoria, South Africa, Musk doesn’t identify as a typical South African.

He’s made it clear that he sees himself as an “American who was born in South Africa.

” His journey began when he left his homeland at the age of 17, heading to Canada in 1989 to explore better opportunities.
