Electoral Act: Parliament to appeal court judgement

The Nigerian Senate & House of Representatives on Wednesday, resolved to appeal the Federal High Court judgement which faulted the provision of section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act, recently passed by the National Assembly.

The parliament is asking the appeal court to set aside the judgement which it said was reached without due consideration of the constitutional interpretation in section 318 of the 1999 Nigerian constitution as amended.

This resolution was reached following the Lawmakers consideration of a motion titled, “the urgent need to appeal the judgement of the Federal High Court Umuahia on suit No. FHC/UM/CS/26/2022, on section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022″.
