The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a major setback in their Week 4 meeting with the Los Angeles Rams after star running back Saquon Barkley was forced out of the game with a hamstring injury.

Barkley went down in the opening quarter at Lincoln Financial Field, raising immediate concerns for Philadelphia as the team faced one of its toughest opponents of the season.

Barkley Pulls Up During First-Down Run

The injury happened less than five minutes into the contest as Barkley accelerated toward a first-down marker.

The Eagles running back appeared to pull up while running at full speed before making his way toward the sideline. Replays appeared to show a Rams defender making light contact with Barkley’s hamstring shortly before he dropped to one knee.

Barkley was subsequently taken into the blue medical tent for assessment.

Star Running Back Taken Back to Locker Room

The situation quickly became more serious when television cameras showed Barkley being escorted toward the locker room by Eagles security chief Dom DiSandro.

The early departure was particularly concerning given Barkley’s importance to Philadelphia’s offensive system. The running back earns around $20 million per year and has established himself as one of the team’s most influential offensive players.

He was officially ruled out shortly before halftime, confirming that he would not return against the Rams.

Eagles Face Major Offensive Challenge

Barkley’s absence leaves Philadelphia without a key component of its rushing attack as the Eagles attempt to overcome the Rams in their Week 4 matchup.

Los Angeles entered the contest among the leading Super Bowl contenders, making Barkley’s early exit an even bigger problem for Philadelphia.

With their primary running back unavailable, the Eagles will have to adjust their offensive approach for the remainder of the game.

Tank Bigsby Set for Greater Role

If Barkley is forced to miss additional games, Tank Bigsby is expected to take on a significantly larger workload in Philadelphia’s backfield.

The Eagles will now await further medical assessments to determine the severity of Barkley’s hamstring problem and how long he could potentially be sidelined.

The extent of the injury will be closely watched given Barkley’s importance to the team’s offensive production.

Barkley Has Previous Injury History

The latest setback adds to a history of injuries that has occasionally interrupted Barkley’s career.

He missed 14 games during the 2020 season after suffering an ACL tear and MCL sprain. In 2023, he was sidelined for three games because of an elbow injury and an ankle sprain.

Barkley also missed three games in 2024 after suffering a high ankle sprain.

Recent Injuries Had Not Kept Him Out

Last season, Barkley dealt with several physical problems, including a groin strain, knee soreness and back tightness.

Despite those issues, he managed to remain available and play through the discomfort without missing an extended period.

The Eagles will now hope that Sunday’s hamstring injury is similarly manageable, although his immediate removal from the game means further evaluation will be required.

Philadelphia Waits for Barkley’s Diagnosis

For now, Philadelphia faces uncertainty over one of its most important offensive players.

Barkley’s status beyond Sunday’s game will depend on the results of medical evaluations, with the Eagles likely to be cautious given his previous injury history.

His potential absence could significantly alter Philadelphia’s rushing plans in the weeks ahead, particularly if the hamstring problem proves more serious than initially feared.
