DSLMC Sues For Synergy with Security Outfits

In continuation of its drive to find a lasting solution to the ongoing herder/ farmer conflict in the state, the Chairman of the state Livestock Management Committee, Chief Julius Egbedi has advocated for synergy with Security Outfits in the state.

In separate visits to their offices of the State Security Services, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps in Asaba, Commissioner Egbedi said the contribution of the security outfits towards ensuring maximum peace would greatly ease the job of the Committee.

While intimating them on the activities of the Committee since inauguration and the challenges faced by both farmers and herders in the ongoing farmer/ herder conflict, he said there was need for their inclusion in the discharge of their duties as critical security stakeholders in the state.

He said a taskforce enforcement committee would be set up, which would include forest guards who would be tasked with monitoring the forests to ensure peace.

He said that their collaboration with the Committee would hopefully hasten the resolution of the communal clash between the farmers and herdsmen thereby leading to sufficient food supply in the state.

In response to their plea, the number one security officers from the various outfit, pledged their support to the Committee.

In his words, the Assistant, Director General of State Services, urged the Committee to consider government ranching and how to commercialise it.

He also admonished them to ensure that the rangers who would act as task force were trained and equipped with the necessary logistics even as Local Government Council Chairmen are included in the recruitment process of the rangers.

On his part, the state Commandant of the Civil Defence Corps, expressed readiness to partner with the Committee in achieving their goals.
