Former President Donald Trump stirred controversy on social media Tuesday, raising concerns about alleged voter fraud in Philadelphia and Detroit, despite voters still casting their ballots.
He posted, “A lot of talk about massive CHEATING in Philadelphia,” and added, “Law Enforcement coming!!!”
Response from Philadelphia Officials
Trump’s accusations were quickly met with strong denials from local authorities.
Seth Bluestein, a Republican and City Commissioner of Philadelphia, took to social media to debunk the claims.
“There is absolutely no truth to this allegation,” Bluestein said, calling it another instance of disinformation.
He reassured the public that voting in Philadelphia had been “safe and secure.”
Bluestein also emphasized his ongoing communication with the Republican National Committee and his commitment to addressing any reports of irregularities at the polls.
More Claims in Detroit
Not stopping with Philadelphia, Trump raised similar concerns about voter issues in Detroit, Michigan.
“Philadelphia and Detroit! Heavy Law Enforcement is there!!!” he wrote, suggesting widespread problems with the voting process.
Philadelphia Officials Push Back
Philadelphia’s District Attorney, Larry Krasner, also responded firmly to Trump’s allegations.
“There is no factual basis whatsoever within law enforcement to support this wild allegation,” Krasner stated.
He encouraged anyone with genuine concerns about the election to come forward, adding, “If Donald J. Trump has any facts to support his wild allegations, we want them now. Right now. We are not holding our breath.”
Democrats Celebrate High Voter Turnout
Meanwhile, Philadelphia Democrats have pointed to the high voter turnout as a sign of enthusiasm for Vice President Kamala Harris.
This surge in participation could help Harris overcome Trump’s strong performance in rural areas.
Philadelphia Democratic Party Chairman Robert Brady noted, “Voter turnout is extremely high,” adding, “I’ve been doing elections for 50 years and chairman for 40 years, and now it’s the highest we’ve ever seen for this point.”
