Dietician recommends switching to a plant-based diet to better manage hypertension

Dietician Omy Naidoo says switching to a plant-based diet helps to control high blood pressure also known as hypertension.

He says the silent killer causes heart disease and premature death. About 45% of men and 48% of women have hypertension.

According to a study, it is a lifestyle condition which is often linked to dietary habits.

Naidoo also recommends a high-fibre diet.

“Start incorporating more fruit and vegetables into the shopping trolley, that’s gonna definitely increase the fibre intake. And as opposed to having white bread or white pasta, try and have the brown variation, try and think of how to add more beans, lentils, in that way you are increasing your fibre intake while hoping to lower your blood pressure. Those that have a plant-based diet actually out-live us normal people that have normal diets with lots of meat and lots of processed foods.”
