Should he be elected President in the elections scheduled for August 9th, Deputy President William Ruto has proposed depriving the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) of its exclusive authority to sell medicines and medical supplies to county and national health facilities.

Speaking with participants in the medical industry at a Kenya Kwanza Alliance forum.

In order to offer counties the freedom to choose suppliers for medications and medical supplies, said Ruto, who is running for president under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the structure of the drug supply chain needs to be changed.

The DP also promised to resume the contentious Sh4.7 billion healthcare digitization tender that was put on hold after questions were raised about the Government’s procurement procedure.

A data center at Kenyatta National Hospital was built as part of the project, and it was connected to 97 additional county and sub-county referral hospitals, the National Hospital and Insurance Fund, and the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority.
