DEPOWA distributes food items to widows of fallen heroes

A total of 50 widows of fallen heroes and 400 spouses of Non-Commissioned Officers of the Armed Forces have benefited from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) humanitarian gesture which took place at the DEPOWA Secretariat and Mogadishu Military Cantonment, Abuja.

The food items distributed by DEPOWA were: bags of rice (25kg), cartons of ( indomie,) noodles, tubers of yam, vegetable oil, (maggi) condiments and spaghettis
The President of DEPOWA, Mrs Vickie Irabor, while presenting the items to the widows, said the benevolence to the less privileged in the society was in accordance with the Association’s mandate.

Mrs Irabor, who lamented the agonies and pains suffered by widows as a result of the demise of their husbands, said DEPOWA would continue to remember them.

According to her, the military community would never forget them, because their late husbands’ sacrificed their lives for the peace and unity of Nigeria.

“What we have done today, which is not the first time, is just to let them know that we appreciate them, we appreciate the sacrifice their husbands made for the nation,” Mrs Irabor noted.

The wife of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) urged the widows to ensure that they use the food items to celebrate the yuletide season with their children.

She expressed her appreciation to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and indeed the CDS, Gen Irabor for supporting DEPOWA in achieving its objectives.

She revealed that widows of fallen heroes are always remembered by DHQ, as they are part of its project.

In a related development, the DEPOWA President yesterday also donated relief materials to Children of Rachael Orphanage Home in Kurudu, Abuja.
