The incident occurred when a suspect allegedly entered the court, disarmed the officer, and shot him, but was later arrested following a shoot-out with the police.

Police Service (SAPS), a suspect entered the Motherwell Court building at around 9:20 AM, disarmed the officer, shot and killed him with the state firearm, and fled the scene on foot.

Members of the Anti-Gang unit who were patrolling the area responded to the incident and were alerted by a taxi driver that the suspect was in possession of the firearm and in the taxi.

The suspect immediately opened fire at the police, and members returned fire.
