…By Jack Sylva for TDPel Media. The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DJCOD) has extended its condolences to the family of a police officer who was fatally shot while serving as a court orderly at the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court in Gqeberha on May 3rd.
The incident occurred when a suspect allegedly entered the court, disarmed the officer, and shot him, but was later arrested following a shoot-out with the police.

According to Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, a spokesperson for the
Police Service (SAPS), a suspect entered the Motherwell Court building at around 9:20 AM, disarmed the officer, shot and killed him with the state firearm, and fled the scene on foot.
Members of the Anti-Gang unit who were patrolling the area responded to the incident and were alerted by a taxi driver that the suspect was in possession of the firearm and in the taxi.
The suspect immediately opened fire at the police, and members returned fire.

The suspect sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital under police guard.
