As the summer transfer window rolls on, things are buzzing behind the scenes at Barcelona.
With new signings, big ambitions, and transfer rumours swirling, sporting director Deco has stepped in to clarify where things stand with three high-profile players whose futures have been under the spotlight.
Deco Keeps Calm but Knows Big Decisions Are Coming
Barcelona, fresh off a season that saw them clinch both LaLiga and the Copa del Rey, are looking to build momentum—not lose it.
Deco, who’s steering the sporting side of things, recently shared his thoughts in an interview with La Vanguardia, giving fans some insight into the club’s mindset heading into this crucial window.
“We want to keep improving, not take steps backwards,” he said, setting the tone for the summer.
Frenkie de Jong’s Future: Deco Wants Him to Stay
When it comes to Frenkie de Jong, Deco made it clear—he’s not planning on letting the Dutch midfielder go.
Despite continued links to Manchester United and the fact that De Jong only has one year left on his current deal, the club sees him as a cornerstone.
“The Frenkie we had this season is the Frenkie we want,” Deco said.
“We want to continue with him. We’ll assess things calmly, but the intention is to keep him.”
De Jong featured in 46 games across all competitions last season, and clearly, his influence is still seen as crucial in midfield.
Ronald Araujo Backed Despite Injury Woes
Next up is Ronald Araujo. The Uruguayan centre-back struggled with injuries last season and came under some tough criticism, but Deco isn’t having any of that.
In his view, Araujo remains one of the world’s best defenders—and definitely part of Barca’s plans.
“He has a contract and he renewed. Yes, he had a rough season and faced some unfair criticism,” Deco acknowledged.
“But leaving isn’t on the table. He wants to come back stronger.”
Ansu Fati Could Be Heading Out for Game Time
While Deco wants to keep De Jong and Araujo in Barcelona, there’s a different tone when it comes to Ansu Fati.
The young winger, once seen as the next big thing, has struggled for minutes and might benefit from a loan move.
“With his age and the career he’s had, he needs to be playing,” Deco explained.
“If he wants to go, we’re not going to create obstacles.”
Monaco has already shown interest, and Deco confirmed that if a deal happens, it would likely be a loan.
At just 23, Deco reminded everyone, Fati still has time on his side: “People talk about him like he’s 30. He still has room to grow.”
Looking Ahead: New Signings and More Moves to Come
Barcelona have already added goalkeeper Joan Garcia from city rivals Espanyol, and let a few players go—including Clement Lenglet, whose contract was ended to allow him to join Atletico Madrid permanently.
Deco is also reportedly keeping a close eye on Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao, who is said to be keen on joining the Catalan giants.
That’s another storyline to watch as the window unfolds.
